The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team won its fourth straight game with a convincing 18-4 win over Binghamton in America East action Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. The victory upped the Seawolves to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Binghamton slipped to 0-5, 0-2 in America East action.
Stony Brook struck early as Danielle Werner took a pass from Marrisa Trachtenberg and scored the first of her three goals only 31 seconds into the contest. The Seawolves scored three more times on tallies from Kerri McCabe, Ashley Blake and Stephanie DeGennaro over the next eight minutes and the hosts had a 4-0 lead.
Binghamton's Laura Wetherell put Binghamton on the board at 19:12 but four more Seawolves goals put Stony Brook in control 8-1 and the Seawolves padded the lead to 12-4 at the break.
Stony Brook held the Bearcats scoreless in the second half thanks to outstanding defensive efforts from Annie Pugh, Beth Arikian and Sarah Hanover. Hanover and Arikian each scooped up a team-best five ground balls and Hanover scored her first collegiate goal at 6:05 of the second half.
McCabe finished with six points on three goals and three assists. Werner (3g, 2a) and Trachtenberg (1g, 4a) both recorded five points. Gina DeNezzo made 10 saves and allowed only four goals to earn her seventh win of the season.
Wetherell led Binghamton with three goals and an assist.
Stony Brook is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Le Moyne. Face-off is 4 p.m.
