Final Stats
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Stony Brook's Jason Cappadoro scored the game-winner
early in the fourth quarter and added three assists as the Seawolves moved
into a tie for third place in America East with a 6-4 men's lacrosse win
over the Vermont Catamounts Saturday at UVM's Centennial Field.
In a low-scoring, possession game, Vermont took a 1-0 lead on a goal by
Doug Moses (Marietta, N.Y.) just 2:37 into the game. Stony Brook, 4-8
overall and 2-2 in America East play, answered with goals from Kevin Shea
and Adam Marksberry and had a 2-1 lead at the half.
Vermont, 5-6 overall and 2-2 in league play, tied it at 2-2 on the first of
two straight goals from Mark Prior (Syracuse, N.Y.). The game remained tied
at 2-2 until the fourth quarter, when Shea scored his second of the game
for the Seawolves from Cappadoro just 47 seconds into the final quarter.
Prior then tied it at 3-3 with his second of the game unassisted with 13:49
left before Stony Brook reeled off three straight goals, with Sean Farrell,
Cappadoro and George LaFlare scoring. Cappadoro was in on all three goals,
assisting on the Farrell and LaFlare tallies.
Vermont's Chris Legare (Derry, N.H.) scored with 52 seconds left to make it
6-4, and the Seawolves held on from there for the victory.
Michael Gabel, second in the nation in save percentage and goals-against
average, made 11 saves for the Catamounts, while Errol Wilson stopped 13
for Stony Brook.
Vermont plays its final game of the regular season next Saturday at home
when it hosts Albany. The Catamounts are now tied for third in the
conference. The top four teams advance to the America East playoffs, with
the top two seeds hosting first-round games on Wednesday, April 30th.
