New Hampshire used an 11-0 spurt to open the game to pave the way for a 19-3 win over Stony Brook in America East women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon. The loss was the fourth straight for the Seawolves as they fell to 7-8 overall, 2-2 in conference play.
UNH scored four times in the first 4:15 with three of the goals coming off the stick of Jessie Groszkowski to seize early control of the game. The Wildcats scored the next seven goals of the contest to go up 11-0 before Jill Gridley put SBU on the board at 26:50.
Stony Brook got two more goals from Marrisa Trachtenberg sandwiched around a goal from UNH's Mel Bourque to cut the home team's advantage to 12-3 at the half.
The Wildcats held Stony Brook scoreless in the second half and cruised to the 19-3 win. SBU's Gina DeNezzo made eight saves in the loss.
Stony Brook is back in action on Sunday when they travel to Vermont for a pivotal conference matchup that will determine who qualifies for the America East Championship next week. Face-off is 11:00 a.m.
A win guarantees the Seawolves a postseason berth. A loss could force a three-way tie with Albany and Vermont which would result in a coin toss to determine who plays in next week's tournament.
