Sophomore Stephanie DiBiase was named the America East Conference Softball Player of the Week, while freshman Hayley Durham received Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced today.
DiBiase was outstanding as Stony Brook went 4-3 on the week, including splits with conference foes Vermont and Boston University. She batted .520 in the seven games, finishing the week with 13 hits, including two homeruns and a double. Her slugging percentage was .800 and she had an on-base percentage of .556.
In a split with Vermont on Monday, she was 5-for-7, including her fourth homerun of the season, with an RBI and two runs scored. In a doubleheader sweep of Fairfield, she was again 5-for-7, including her fifth homer, with two RBI and four runs scored. On the season, DiBiase has started all 32 games this season, and her .413 batting average leads the team. Her totals of 45 hits and 27 runs are also team-highs.
As for Durham, she had eight hits on the week, including her second homerun of the year. She batted .421 in seven games and also had four RBI. In a doubleheader sweep of Fairfield, she was 3-for-5, including the homer, with three RBI and a run scored. She was 2-for-6 in a split with BU and collected two hits and an RBI in a loss to Marist.
The awards marked the first time this season that Stony Brook has been honored by the conference.
The Seawolves are scheduled to take on Hartford in an America East contest on Wednesday afternoon in West Hartford, Conn. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
