California native Christina Voth has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Stony Brook University softball team, head coach Megan Bryant announced.
Voth, a pitcher and first baseman for Lutheran High School in Orange County, Calif., helped lead her team to the California Interscholastic Federation Championship. She also plays fo the Southern California Force in the Amateur Softball Association. An outstanding student, she has a 4.2 overall GPA. She is among the top four percent in her class and hopes to study physical therapy or nursing.
"Christina and Stony Brook are a great match academically and athletically," Bryant said. "She is a student with high academic goals and she has tremendous potential as a pitcher. She comes from an outstanding high school program and she knows what it takes to be successful."
Stony Brook finished the 2003 regular season with a 25-31 record, the most wins in the program's history. The Seawolves qualified for the America East Tournament for the first time this season and will face No. 1 seed Boston University on Thursday.
