Jackie Nunez captured the women's individual title while Brian Farrell finished fourth for the men to lead the Stony Brook cross country team at the Monmouth University Invitational at Holmdel Park in New Jersey on Monday afternoon.
Nunez, who won her second individual title of the 2003 season, finished first in a time of 18:03.4 for the 5k distance, followed by junior Laura Hixson in fifth place in 19:09.8 and freshman Liz Carlson in 11th place in 19:35.6. The scoring five was completed by solid runs from Meghann DeVito (72nd, 22:03.4) and Corinne Leake (92nd, 23:06.7).
Rutgers took home the team title with 52 points, followed by Lehigh in second with 72, Monmouth in third with 85, Sacred Heart in fourth with 103 and Stony Brook in fifth with 118.
On the men's side, Brian Farrell, who was fourth in 26:48.6, and Dale Summerville, who finished ninth in 27:12.9, both finished in the top 10 for the Seawolves on the 5 mile course.
Lehigh captured the men's team title with 38 points, followed by Quinnipiac in second with 46, Monmouth in third with 96, DeSale in fourth with 147, Sacred Heart in fifth with 150 and Stony Brook in sixth with 162.
The Seawolves have a week off before returning to action on Friday, October 3 when they travel to Bronx, N.Y. to compete in the MET Championships.
