Hartford used a 14-0 run late in the second half to break open a close game and defeat Stony Brook 58-39 on Saturday afternoon at the SBU Sports Complex. The Seawolves (2-11, 1-3) have now lost three in a row, while the Hawks (13-2, 4-0) have won eight straight.
With Hartford leading by four 12 minutes into the second half, Bridget Murray drained her first of three three-pointers during a 14-0 run by the visitors. Jenna Gale followed with a basket before the Hawks put the game away with three straight three-pointers to take an 18-point lead, 50-32, with 3:37 to play.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, with the Seawolves shooting just 23.1 percent (6-for-26) from the field, while the Hawks managed just 30.4 percent (7-of-23) shooting to take a 24-20 lead at the half.
The Seawolves shot a season-low 28.3 percent (13-of-46) from the field and continuted to struggle from the charity stripe, making just 13-of-22 (59.1 percent) free throws. Hartford outrebounded SB by a 41 to 28 margin in the contest.
Jessica Smith led Stony Brook with 12 points and six rebounds. Inbar Orion added seven boards in the loss.
Ikea Witt and Jenna Gale each had 12 points to lead Hartford.
The Seawolves return to action when they travel to face Albany on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
