Binghamton used a second half run to take control of a close game as the Bearcats topped Stony Brook 54-45 on Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Sports Complex. The Seawolves have now lost five straight to fall to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the America East, while Binghamton has won five straight to improve to 10-4 and 5-1.
Trailing 46-36 with seven minutes to play, Stony Brook used a 6-0 run fueled by a three pointer by Theresa LoParrino to cut the Bearcats lead to four at 46-42 with just under six minutes to play. That was as close as the Seawolves would get, however, as they managed just one field goal over the final 5:49 of the game, while the visitors closed the game on an 8-3 run.
The Seawolves shot a season-low 28.1 percent (16-for-57) from the field in the game.
Stony Brook was led by Sherry Jordan, who collected 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Jordan scored her 1,400th career point and moved into fourth place all-time at Stony Brook with 723 career rebounds. Jessica Smith added a team-high 11 rebounds.
Rachel Laws led Binghamton with 15 points, while Leala Wegwerth added 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Boston University at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised by the Metro, Empire and New England Sports Networks.
