Summerville, Joy Capture Individual Titles at Met Championships

Bronx, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Dale Summerville and Leonora Joy captured the men's and women's individual titles and the women's team finished in second place overall at the 2004 Metropolitan Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon at VanCortlandt Park.

Summerville, who captured the men's title in 25:27.4, becomes the first Stony Brook male to win an individual Met title. Joy won the women's race in 18:20 to mark the second straight season the Seawolves have won the women's title, as Jackie Nunez picked up the victory a year ago.

On the women's side, the Seawolves finished in second place behind No. 15 Columbia. Sarah Beresford was fourth in 18:46, while Dana Hastie crossed ninth in 19:10. Sarah Herbert (21st, 19:52) and Tiffany Coon (33rd, 20:12) rounded out SB's top five.

On the men's side, Stony Brook finished fifth overall, tying the program's best finish at the meet. Brian Farrell posted a ninth place finish in 25:57.2, followed by Shawn Krawitz in 31st in 27:06, Andrew Sinnott in 53rd in 27:48 and Michael Petrina in 66th in 28:18.3.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they compete in the Penn State National Invitational.
