Final Stats

LORETTO, PA -- Sophomore tailback Todd Harris ran for a career-high 239 yards, but the Saint Francis University football team couldn't overcome a couple of costly second half mistakes, dropping a 29-21 decision to Stony Brook in Northeast Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Pine Bowl.

Harris, who missed his team's previous two games with a knee injury, finished the afternoon with 239 yards on a career-high 32 carries.

Trailing, 22-21, early in the fourth quarter, SFU lined up to punt from the Stony Brook 40-yard line. The snap on the punt attempt sailed over the head of senior punter Carl Parrish, however, and Stony Brook began its next drive at the Red Flash 25-yard line. Four plays later, Seawolves senior tailback Clinton Graham crossed the goalline from two yards out. The point after attempt failed and Stony Brook led, 29-21.

Another miscue cost the Flash on the team's ensuing possession. Behind the running of Harris, the Flash marched from their own 35-yard line to the Stony Brook one. Following a timeout on a fourth and goal from the Seawolves' one, Saint Francis committed a false start penalty that pushed the ball back to the six-yard line. SFU head coach Dave Opfar still elected to go for the touchdown, but sophomore quarterback Anthony Doria's pass fell incomplete, thwarting SFU's last serious scoring opportunity.

Saint Francis fell behind, 10-0, in the second quarter, but cut the deficit to just three points with a late first half scoring drive. Doria drove the Flash 67 yards on 13 plays, connecting with wideout Luke Palko on a four-yard scoring aerial with 14 seconds remaining before the intermission.

SFU took advantage of a 79-yard kickoff return by sophomore Anthony Richards to open the second half. Two plays later, Doria hit a streaking Maurice Sales from 17 yards out and Adam Sciulli's point after gave the Flash a 14-10 advantage.

Sophomore tailback Ricky Taylor accounted for SFU's other touchdown on the afternoon, finding paydirt from nine yards out in the third quarter to stake the Flash to a 21-16 lead. Stony Brook would answer the SFU score immediately, however, when Seawolves senior quarterback T.J. Moriarty hit Josh Anderson with a 22-yard scoring pass 87 seconds later, allowing Stony Brook to reclaim the lead, 22-21.

Doria finished the game 12-for-24 for 101 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Moriarty was 13-for-23 for 214 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Harris ran for 171 of his 239 yards in the second half. Taylor finished the game with 62 rushing yards on 17 carries. Palko led all receivers with nine catches for 79 yards. Both Saint Francis (3-4, 1-3 NEC) and Stony Brook (2-4, 2-2 NEC) finished the game with 343 total offensive yards.
