Loren Stokes scored a game-high 17 points to pace Hofstra to a 66-54 win over Stony Brook Monday night. The win was the ninth straight for the Pride who improved to 9-0 while the Seawolves suffered their second straight setback to fall to 4-5.
Both teams struggled to score in the early part of the first half which saw Hofstra hold a 14-12 lead after Stony Brook's Antwan Hardy converted a layup with 10:26 to go. The Pride followed with a tip-in by Stokes that ignited a 23-6 run over the next 9:12 as the visitors took a commanding 37-18 advantage.
The second half saw the Pride build their lead to as many as 31 on a layup by Aurimas Kieza at the 10:19 mark.
The Seawolves were held to 33 percent shooting and trailed at the break for the eighth time in nine outings.
Hardy led Stony Brook with 16 points, six rebounds and two assists. Bobby Santiago finished with 15.
The Seawolves are back in action on Thursday when they host Wagner. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
