Delaware scored six unanswered goals to start the second half to break open a 4-2 game to defeat Stony Brook 11-4 in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. Adam Marksberry scored twice for the Seawolves who slipped to 0-1.
After a pair of goals by Andy Hipple put Delaware up 2-0 in the first quarter, Marksberry scored his first of the season off a feed from George LaFlare to cut the lead in half at the 9:33 mark of the first quarter. Adam Zetzer evened the score at 2-2 less than two minutes later.
Delaware scored the next eight goals, two before the end of the half from Matt Alrich and Hipple. Hipple added another during the decisive 6-0 run during the third quarter.
LaFlare tallied at 6:54 of the third and Marksberry closed out the scoring with his second of the game with 2:33 remaining.
Delaware won 17 of 19 face-offs and outshot SB 41-26.
Freshman Sam Stockdale made 14 saves and yielded 10 goals in three quarters of action. Brendan Callahan came on in relief of Stockdale and made one save in the final quarter.
Stony Brook is back in action next Saturday when it hosts UMass. Face-off is 1 p.m.
