Amy Taylor scored three goals and nine different Seawolves found the net as the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team posted a convincing 14-6 win over Central Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Stony Brook improved to 3-2 while the Blue Devils dropped to 0-3.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the first half, Stephanie DeGennaro got the Seawolves even at 1-1 off a feed from Taylor at 22:21. The Seawolves went on to score five unanswered goals capped by Taylor's first of the game with 14:30 remaining in the half. Melissa Fertiguena's goal cut the lead to 5-2 but SB responded with goals from Katie Pullen and Taylor to help build a 7-3 halftime lead.
Stony Brook put the game away early in the second half. Andrea Venditti scored at 23:30 and following a Blue Devil goal, Pullen and Taylor again answered for the visitors to put Stony Brook in command 10-4.
Taylor finished with three goals and an assist while Carlee Buck collected a goal and two assists. Pullen, Venditti and Jill Gridley had two goals apiece while Marrisa Trachtenberg, Beth Arikian and Kristin Kissinger scored for the Seawolves.
Jen Sandtorv made 10 saves to earn her third win of the season.
The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they open up conference play at home against UMBC at LaValle Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
