Boston, Mass. - Northeastern cruised to a 92-68 win over visiting Stony Brook at Solomon Court on Saturday. With the loss, the Seawolves wrap up the regular season 7-20 overall and 6-12 in America East play, while the Huskies improve to 13-14 and 7-11.
The Seawolves finish the season in eighth place and will enter the America East tournament as the No. 8 seed. The Seawolves will face off with No. 9 New Hampshire on Wednesday at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The Huskies started out on fire, hitting their first seven shots to jump out to a 15-5 lead just four minutes into the game. Northeastern continued to roll through the first 20 minutes, leading by as many as 22 points, 41-19, with three minutes left to play in the half.
The Huskies went to the locker room up, 42-25, due in large part to 50.0 percent shooting from the field. Northeastern also picked up 12 points on free throws in the opening frame.
The Seawolves opened up the second half with a 12-6 run fueled by three pointers by Mykeema Ford and Kelly Watson to cut the deficit to 11 points, but NU answered with an 18-7 run to break open a 23-point lead, 66-43, with just under 12 minutes to play in the game. NU didn't look back, leading by as many as 28 points with six minutes left.
For Stony Brook, Ford scored a team-high 19 points, while Sherry Jordan, who posted a double-double with 14 poitns and 12 rebounds, moved into second place all-time at SB with 1,538 career points. Jessica Smith also scored 10 points for the Seawolves.
Maralene Zwarich scored a game-high 26 points, while Michelle Decerbo finished with a career-high 17 points for the Huskies.
