Albany, N.Y. -
The freshmen duo of Merrick Thomson and Frank Resetarits combined for seven goals to lead Albany past Stony Brook, 16-7, in America East men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in the state capital. It was the second straight conference defeat for SB as it fell to 4-5 overall, 1-2 in conference play.
Stony Brook fell behind 1-0 early in the first quarter but rallied quickly to take a 4-3 advantage. Adam Marksberry got the Seawolves even at 11:02 and after SB fell behind 2-1, Marksberry answered again and Jason Cappadoro scored seven seconds later to give the Seawolves their first lead at 3-2. After a Thomson goal for UA evened the game at 3 apiece, Matthew O'Connor converted a crossing pass from Cappadoro to again put the visitors in front 4-3 late in the first quarter.
Albany responded with four unanswered goals to take the lead for good. Chris Martocchia's goal with 26 seconds remaining in the first quarter got the Danes even and junior midfielder Brendan Russell scored a man-up goal early in the second to give Albany a 5-4 advantage, an advantage it would build to 8-5 at the half.
The Great Danes added to their lead with three consecutive goals in the third quarter. Luke Daquino started the run with a man-up goal at 10:01 and he capped it out when he finished off a feed from Tim Primrose just outside the crease at 6:40.

The Great Danes high-powered attack did not slow down as Thomson added two more goals and Martocchia also added two more to help UA outscore the Seawolves 5-1 over the final 15 minutes of play.
