New Hampshire Races Past Women's Lacrosse 19-4

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Katie Leland scored three goals and added five assists to lead New Hampshire to a 19-4 win over Stony Brook in America East women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. New Hampshire raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first 3:44 of the game and never looked back as it won for the fifth straight time. The loss dropped Stony Brook to 4-5 overall, 0-2 in conference play.

Kristin Blanchette scored just 35 seconds into the game and 19 seconds later Jess Burnap converted a feed from Leland to quickly put UNH ahead 2-0. The Wildcats then got goals from Jill Albee and Sarah Cahill to extend the lead to 4-0 at the 26:16 mark.

Danielle Werner's unassisted goal put the Seawolves on the board at 22:15 but UNH responded with goals from Cahill and Blanchette to go up 6-1. Werner sliced the lead to 6-2 at 11:21, but the Wildcats closed the half with four more goals to take a 10-2 advantage into the break.

Burnap scored a pair of goals 48 seconds apart in the second half to put the game out of reach as the Wildcats went on to the 19-4 win.

Marrisa Trachtenberg added a goal for the Seawolves and Werner notched her third of the game with 6:18 remaining to close out the Stony Brook scoring.

Jen Sandtorv faced 33 shots and made five saves in the loss. Stacey Plati stopped five Stony Brook shots in 30 minutes of action to earn the win.

New Hampshire (6-4, 1-0) was led by Leland's eight points, while Burnap finished with four goals. Blanchette and Cahill pitched in with three goals apiece.

Stony Brook is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Manhattan. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
