Men's Lacrosse Hosts Quinnipiac On Saturday

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team will host Quinnipiac in its final regular season game of 2004 Saturday at LaValle Stadium. Senior Day: The Seawolves wrap up regular season action Saturday against Quinnipiac. Five Stony Brook seniors will be honored before the start of the game. SB's Class of 2004 includes: Brian Alfano, Reed Darby, Eric Hatkewitz, George LaFlare and Aaron Weiss.

Long Island Bragging Rights: The Seawolves took home Long Island bragging rights with a convincing 9-6 triumph over Hofstra Tuesday night before a record crowd of 3,750 fans. SB dominated from the outset, surging to a 3-1 after one quarter on goals from Mike Kirschner, George LaFlare and Larry Cerasi. With the Seawolves ahead 4-2 at the half, SB took control with three unanswered goals in the third from Jason Cappadoro, Adam Marksberry and LaFlare. Brendan Callahan was again outstanding in the goal, making 18 saves to earn his eighth win of the season.

Versus Quinnipiac: The Seawolves are 3-1 all-time versus Quinnipiac.

Drive For Five: A win over Quinnipiac would push SB's winning streak to five and mark the first five-game winning streak since the '91 season.

An All-American Type of Guy: Freshman Brendan Callahan's 2004 playing resume has put him into serious consideration for All-America recognition. In his last two games, he has turned away 39 shots to lower his goals against average to 5.96 and better his save percetage to an outstanding .698. He leads all Division I goalies in both categories and stands to become the first Stony Brook goalie in the program's history to lead the nation in goals against average and only the second Seawolf to lead the nation in save percentage. Greg Taylor posted a NCAA Division I best .671 save percentage in 1998. This year, he has garnered both America East Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

He's Number 1: Sophomore Jason Cappadoro has been at the center of Stony Brook's four-game winning streak. In those four games, Cappadoro has piled up 16 points to up his team-leading total to 36.

On The Mark: Sophomore Adam Marksberry scored his team-leading 22nd goal of the season on Tuesday against Hofstra. In doing so, he extended his goal-scoring streak to 14 games dating back to the final game of 2003.

Young Guns: Stony Brook has scored 101 goals this season, 79 of which can be credited to underclassmen. SB's freshmen and sophomores have accounted for over 79 percent of the team's scoring in 2004.

News And Notes: SB is 7-1 at home this season . . . freshman Matt Donovan has scored in each of the last two games . . . SB will be either the No. 3 or the No. 4 seed in next week's America East Championships . . . Michael Poch won 13 of 19 draws against Hofstra.

Playoffs: The America East semifinals will take place on May 5th at the site of the two highest seeds. Game times are 4 p.m.
