Women's Lacrosse Falls to Duquesne 15-3

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team finished up its two-game Pennsylvania road swing versus Duquesne on Thursday afternoon, falling 15-3 to the Dukes at Rooney Field. The loss drops the Seawolves to 4-4 overall, while Duquesne improves to 8-3.

Caroline Gallagher found the back of the net just :51 into the game to start a 5-0 scoring run for Duquesne. Leann McCabe put the Seawolves on the board at the 9:53 mark with an unassisted goal, but the Dukes answered with seven straight goals to take a 12-1 lead at the break.

Duquesne out-shot Stony Brook 21-2 in the first frame and won 14 draws to the Seawolves' one.

Stony Brook struck first in the second half, as Danielle Werner tallied an unassisted goal just :54 into the period. Krista Mann scored off a feed by Jen Lorenze at 9:31 and Becca West tallied a goal from Margaret Cloutman at 12:15 for a 14-2 edge. Werner netted her second tally of the game at 28:58 before Laura App scored a free position goal at 29:15 for the 15-3 final.

Werner paced Stony Brook with two of the Seawolves' three goals. Keeper Jen Sandtorv recorded 12 saves in the loss.

Duquesne saw 11 different scorers on the day as Kelly Mulford, Ginger Flocco, Gallagher and App with two goals each. Sarah Pacini recorded six saves in net for the Dukes.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday, April 10, when they face conference for New Hampshire at 12:00 p.m. Listen live to the action as the game will broadcast on WUSB radio, 90.1 FM.
