Rachel Laws scored 21 points and Laura Sario netted 18 as Binghamton topped Stony Brook, 68-61, in America East women's basketball action on Tuesday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. The Seawolves have now lost four straight to fall to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Bearcats improved to 4-10 and 3-2.
Binghamton took a 35-26 lead at the break behind a combined 22 points from Laws and Sario. Stony Brook shot just .296 (8-for-27) in the half.
The Seawolves came out shooting in the second, using a 9-0 run capped by a Jessie Boylan layup to pull within two at 39-37 just over four minutes into the half. The visitors responded with an 8-0 run of their own fueled by a three-point play by Laws to push the lead back to 10 at 49-39 with 12:02 on the clock.
Binghamton stretched its lead to as much as 17 points at 67-50 after a Sario three-pointer at 3:52. The Seawolves chipped away at the lead, closing the game on an 11-1 run, but it was too late as the Bearcats held on for the win.
Jessica Smith led all scorers with 22 points to go with a game-high 12 rebounds, while Boylan finished with a career-best 15 points.
Laws pulled down 10 boards to go with her 21 points for the Bearcats.
The Seawolves hit the road once again when they travel to Boston University for a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday.
