Turnovers and poor shooting haunted Stony Brook until it was too late as New Hampshire topped the Seawolves 74-58 on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in America East play, while the Wildcats improved to 6-5 and 2-0.
The Wildcats took a 35-24 lead at the break behind a late 8-2 run as well as 10 first half points by Ebony Woods. Stony Brook turned the ball over 11 times in the stanza, while it shot just 32.3 percent from the field.
The Wildcats took over in the second, stretching their lead to as much as 21 at 59-38 on a jumper by Kate Dillion at 9:40. The Seawolves used an 8-0 spurt behind a pair of three's by Mykeema Ford to cut the advantage to 14 at 68-54 with 3:31 to play, but that's as close as they could get.
Jessica Smith led SB with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Ford chipped in with 14 points, eight boards and six assists.
UNH's Danielle Clark led all scorers with 19 points.
The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Vermont at 7:00 p.m.
