Stony Brook Runs Over St. Francis 47-29

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University football team erupted for 47 points as they toppled Northeast Conference foe St. Francis 47-29 Saturday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Luke Gaddis tied a Stony Brook school record as he connected on a 47 yard field goal in the fourth quarter. With the win the Seawolves improve to 3-3 and 2-1 in NEC play. The loss drops St. Francis to 2-4 and 2-1 in the NEC.

The Seawolves special teams struck first at 11:01 in the opening quarter as Paul Perez blocked a punt and Sterling Goodwin scooped it up at the SFU 15 yard line and ran it in for the first score of the game.

The Red Flash evened the game at seven a piece with a 15-play 80-yard drive capped off by a Todd Harris one-yard touchdown plunge at 3:52 in the first quarter.

Stony Brook answered 3:59 minutes later when Josh Dudash hit Josh Anderson on a four-yard fade pass in the corner of the endzone to put the Seawolves up 14-7.

Rod Williams ran it in from 24 yards out four minutes later as the Seawolves went on to score 24 unanswered points in the second quarter. At the 8:57 mark Perez picked off a Red Flash pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown. Luke Gaddis tacked on a 32 yard field goal as time expired in the first half, giving the Seawolves the 31-7 advantage.

Dudash connected with Joe Tarsiewicz on a 42 yard touchdown pass to complete a nine-play 81-yard drive putting the Seawolves up 37-7 at 9:58 of the third quarter.

The Red Flash responded when Anthony Doria found Antoine Rivera from 13 yards for the touchdown. After SFU recovered an onside kick, Doria struck again 47 seconds later when he hit Luke Palko on a 25-yard pass. Following the two-point conversion, the Seawolf lead was cut to 15.

Assad Hafiz capped off a 8-play 64-yard play that included a 39-yard reception with a six yard scamper to find the endzone for his first touchdown in a Seawolves jersey.

The Red Flash would tally their final points of the game when Doria scored on a one-yard quarterback keeper at the 13:23 mark of the final quarter.

Gaddis booted a 47-yard field goal with 8:25 in the game to put the Seawolves up 47-29. Gaddis' blast tied Bob Burden's 17-year old school record for longest field goal. Burden nailed a 47-yarder against St. John's on September 24, 1988.

Dudash finished the day 10-15 for 141 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 72 yards on 10 carries. Hafiz lead the Seawolves on the ground with 107 yards and Williams added 99.

Dan Michitsch had his fourth straight double-digit tackle performance with 13 tackles. Mike Mounter added 10 tackles and a sack in the victory.

Doria concluded the day 29-45 for 302 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Caputo totaled 10 receptions for a game-high 131 yards.

Louis Beninato led the Red Flash with 12 tackles on the afternoon.

The Seawolves return to action when they travel to Sacred Heart on Saturday, October 12 at 1:00 PM.
