The University of Maryland-Baltimore County women's soccer team tallied two goals in a 19-second span in the second half to defeat Stony Brook, 3-0, this afternoon in America East action at LaValle Stadium.
Stony Brook falls to 3-9-1 (0-3 America East) while UMBC improves to 7-5 (1-1 America East).
Senior goalkeeper Cindy Bennett faced 18 shots in the match and grabbed seven saves.
UMBC's Cara Palmer netted a goal just over six minutes into the second half. Palmer collected the ball from a scramble in front of the net off a free kick
to give the Retrievers a 2-0 advantage.
Just 19 seconds later, Amanda DiCarlo added an insurance goal to put the game out of reach. Jessica Young broke down the right hand side of hte field before centering the ball to Missy Moore who heeled the ball backwards to DiCarlo, who found the back of the net.
Jessica Young tallied the first goal of the day after she slipped behind the Seawolf defense and finished the one-on-one situation to net her 10th goal of the season at the 21:14 mark of the first half.
The Seawolves nearly equalized the game when sophmore Kristin Mishrell's header off senior Chelsea Van Horn's corner kick hit the right post, 34:37 in to the first half.
Stony Brook returns to action when they travel to Maine on Thursday, October 6. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
