Loren Stokes netted 29 points for Hofstra this evening, as the the Pride topped the Stony Brook University men's basketball team ,73-56, in Hempstead, N.Y. The Seawolves fall to 0-6 on the season, while Hofstra improves to 5-2.
Mike Popoko led the way for the Seawolves, netting 15 points and snagging five boards on the evening. Antwan Hardy chipped in with 9 points off the bench.
Hofstra jumped all over Stony Brook in the opening minutes, racing out to a 17-0 lead with 13:43 in the first half. The Seawolves clawed back into the game, outscoring the host team 21-16 through the rest of the half to go into the locker room down, 33-21. Popoko netted nine of his team-high 15 points in the first stanza.
The Pride maintained their lead throughout the second half, as Stony Brook tried to chip away at the lead. The Seawolves got as close as 11 on a Stephane Bakinde jumper in the lane with 4:26 left in the game, but that was as close as Stony Brook would get on the evening.
Tre Cunningham contributed off the bench with six points, five boards, and a career-high three assists, while Bobby Santiago and Hendrik Feist each had eight points.
The Seawolves return to action when they host America East rival Albany on Wednesday December 23. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
