Feb. 16, 2005

Box Score

BOSTON (AP) - Etienne Brower scored 18 points and Chaz Carr added 14 as Boston University won its eighth straight, 57-50 over Stony Brook on Wednesday night.

The Terriers (19-5, 13-2 America East) held an opponent to 50 points or less for the fourth time in six games and swept the season series from Stony Brook, which stunned top-seed BU in the opening round of last season's conference tournament.

The Seawolves (9-15, 4-11) had almost as many turnovers (14) as field goals (16) in losing for the seventh time in their last nine games.

Stony Brook pulled within 54-48 with 32.4 seconds left on Bobby Santiago's 3-pointer. Brower missed a pair of free throws at the other end, but Santiago missed a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left that would have made it a one possession game.

The Terriers, winners of nine straight at home, broke open a tight game with a 10-2 run midway through the second half. Brower hit a pair of 3-pointers in the run that gave BU a 45-31 lead with 8:46 left.

BU jumped ahead 15-4 before Stony Brook pulled within 25-21 at halftime.

Santiago scored 16 points and Cori Spencer had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Antwan Hardy, Stony Brook's leading scorer, sat out the final 17:02 after he failed to join a team huddle following an argument with the coaching staff. He finished with three points.
