Women's Lacrosse Defeats Denver 10-9 in Overtime

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Jen Sandtorv made fifteen saves and Amy Taylor netted the game winning goal with 1:04 left in the first overtime as Stony Brook earned a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over Denver on Friday evening at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves rallied from a 7-3 halftime defecit to remain undefeated at home and improve to 4-2, while Denver falls to 1-8.

Denver jumped out to an early 3-0 lead until Katie Savino found Carlee Buck for a Stony Brook goal at 20:02. Denver responded with two goals to go up 5-1 with under 18 minutes to play in the half. After a Marrisa Trachtenberg tally, Steph Greenlees netted her fourth of the half and Denver led 6-2 at 9:57. Kristen Dupuis connected on a give-and-go from Buck at 7:58 but the Pioneers struck back a minute and a half later to lead 7-3 heading into the break.

Dupuis opened second half scoring with an unassisted marker at 24:46 and Danielle Werner and Trachtenberg scored less than a minute apart to pull within one at 17:49. Goals by Kate Broderick and Kylie Murphy pushed Denver back ahead at 9-6. Jill Gridley took the ball 30 yards, beating a slew of Pioneer defenders to the cage, netting Stony Brook's seventh of the game. Werner's goal at 5:29 cut the Denver lead to one and Buck's tally at 3:46 from Dupuis knotted the game at nine. Sandtorv shut the visitors down the rest of the way making two crucial saves with under two minutes to play.

Late in the first overtime, Buck found Taylor open in front of the net, netting what would be the game winner for Stony Brook. Sandtorv and the Seawolves defense held the Pioneers off to earn the win.

Buck finished with a game-high five points on two goals and three assists, while Dupuid added two goals and two assists. Werner and Trachtenberg each finished with a pair of goals in the win.

Greenlees finished with a game-high four goals, all coming in the first half. Schneider stopped five SB shots in the loss.

The Seawolves travel to Hofstra on Tuesday to take on the Pride in a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
