Adam Marksberry tallied two goals and three assists in just over a half of play to lead the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team to a 14-2 cruise control victory over Wagner on Saturday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. With the victory, the Seawolves improve to 2-0 this season, while Wagner falls to 0-2.
Stony Brook dominated play in the first quarter, outshooting the Seahawks 16-1 to take a 4-0 lead after one. Marksberry scored the first goal of the game and assisted on the second two tallies of the period to establish a dominating attack by the Seawolves.
Larry Cerasi and Marksberry opened the scoring in the second period with a goal apiece before Wagner got on the board to make the game 6-1 with 7:55 to go in the second period. Two more SB goals in the second gave the team an 8-1 lead at the break.
The Seawolves didn't let up in the second half, scoring the first four goals of the half to take a commmanding 12-1 lead. A Wagner tally by Kevin Zulauf with 11:59 left in the game would be the last scoring of the day for Wagner as the Seawolves tallied the final two goals of the game for the 14-2 victory.
Marksberry, Cerasi and Bo Tripodi tallied two goals apiece to pace a Stony Brook attack that saw 11 Seawolves score goals in the victory.
Brendan Callahan picked up the win in net for Stony Brook, stopping four shots in the first half before giving way to backup goalies Errol Wilson and Sean LaFloch.
The Seawolves are back in action on Tuesday evening when they take on Army at 7 p.m. at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
