Final Stats

Burlington, Vt. - Jason Cappadoro recorded a career-high seven points and freshman Matt Ural made 18 saves to lead Stony Brook to a 16-5 win over Vermont in America East men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The win improved Stony Brook to 8-3, 3-1 in conference play while Vermont dropped to 2-7, 0-4.

Leading 7-5 early in the third quarter, Adam Marksberry's second goal of the game at 6:30 ignited a 5-0 run for the visitors to close the stanza. Ryan Maehr followed Marksberry with a tally at 5:23 and 13 seconds later Sean Chamberlain converted a Cappadoro feed for a man-up goal to make the score 10-5. Kyle Pearl and Mike Kirschner closed out the scoring in the third to give SB a commanding 12-5 lead heading into the final quarter.

Rhys Duch, Chamberlain, Cappadoro and Bobby Trenkle all scored in the fourth to provide the final margin of victory. Stony Brook held Vermont scoreless for the final 23:30 of the game.

It was a see-saw battle early on as Vermont took an early 1-0 lead at 7:08 of the first quarter. Ryan Hughes got SB even just under two minutes later and then Chris Tracey and Cappadoro found the back of the net to make the score 3-1 early in the second quarter. The teams then traded a pair of goals to make the score 5-3 at the break.

Cappadoro finished with two goals and five assists to set a new single-game career high with seven points, surpassing his previous high of six that he set earlier this season versus Quinnipiac. Marksberry had two goals and two assists while rookie midfielder Duch had two goals and an assist. Chamberlain added two man-up goals for a unit that converted 3 of 5 chances.

Ural, making his second collegiate start, had his best day in a Seawolf uniform as he turned aside 18 Catamount shots, including a few from point blank range. The win moved him to 2-0 this season.

The Seawolves are back in action next Saturday when they host UMBC. Face-off is 7 p.m.
