The Stony Brook men's and women's tennis teams cruised to victories over Hofstra on Tuesday afternoon as the women won all nine matches for a 7-0 win while the men earned a 6-1 victory. With the wins, the women's team improves to 13-7 and the men move to 13-8 this year.
On the women's side, the Seawolves dominated the Pride all afternoon, sweeping all three doubles matches and all six singles matches. Hana Chovanova (6-0, ret.), Anne Cathrine Valle (6-4, 6-1) and Sandy Wijeratne (7-5, 6-0) all won in straight sets at the top three spots in the lineup while Monica Myers (6-4, 4-6, 10-3) and Victoria Vasile (1-6, 6-3, 10-4) won in super tiebreaks at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Rachel Kimelman finished the match out with a 8-6 win at No. 6 singles.
The men's team didn't have any trouble en route to a 6-1 victory as they swept the doubles matches and earned wins in five of six in singles. Jan Krejci won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 and Tal Meir won 4-6, 6-2 (10-5) at No. 2. Playing No. 3, Michael Crooks' opponent retired after being down 5-1 in the first set and David Kortum (6-3, 6-1) and Jean-Francois Robitaille (6-2, 6-4) eased to wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hartford.
