Stony Brook suffered a 17-8 loss to Boston University on Saturday evening at LaValle Stadium. With the loss the Seawolves fall to 8-6, 2-3 in America East play while the Terriers improve to 13-1, 5-0.
Boston struck first with two goals from Lindsay Lewis. Carlee Buck answered on a free position to make it 2-1 but the Terriers rallied off four straight goals to go up 6-1 with 17:22 to play in the half. Katie Savino broke the Seawolves scoring drought before BU closed the half on a 3-0 run to lead 9-2 at the break.
BU opened the second half on a 5-2 run behind three goals from Jenny Hauser to go up 14-4 at 19:19. The Seawolves answered with three straight goals, a pair by Amy Taylor and one from Elizabeth Montreuil to pull within 14-7 just under five minutes later. The Terriers rallied with three straight to take a 17-7 lead and put the game away.
Taylor led the Seawolves with four points on three goals and an assist. Buck finished with a goal and an assist. Gina DeNezzo took the loss, allowing 14 goals and turning away nine BU shots. Jen Sandtorv came on with 19:19 remaining in the game to let in three goals and make three saves.
Lewis led all scorers with eight points on five goals and three assists. Hauser added seven points on six goals and one helper. BU keeper Anne Sheridan earned with win, allowing two goals while making three saves in the first half. Jenna Golden relieved her in the second half to make three saves while allowing six goals.
The game served as the final home game for senior Annie Pugh who was honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Stony Brook is back in action on Friday in Baltimore for a 7:00 p.m. game with UMBC.
