Women's Lacrosse Edged by Albany 11-10

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Marrisa Trachtenberg and Danielle Werner racked up three points a piece but it wasn't enough for the Seawolves to overcome Albany's furious second half comeback, falling 11-10 on Saturday evening at LaValle Stadium. With the loss, Stony Brook falls to 6-4, 1-1 and the Great Danes improve to 3-10, 1-1.

With her second goal, Werner became the first player in women's lacrosse history to reach the 100 point mark at Stony Brook.

Stony Brook jumped out to a 3-0 with goals from Werner, Carlee Buck and Trachtenberg. The Danes answered with two of their own, but Jennifer Joyce, Trachtenberg, Werner and Kristen Dupuis put four more on the board for the Seawolves to take the 7-2 lead heading into the final three minutes of the half. Albany's Krissy Rajczak netted one more for Albany with 55 seconds to go and the Seawolves headed into the break with the 7-3 advantage.

Albany's Kate Fontana led the Danes' charge, scoring two back-to-back goals to start the half. Amy Taylor netted the Seawolves' first of the half at 16:06 but Albany answered with two more to cut the SB lead to one with ten minutes to play. Werner netted her third at 9:46 but Albany earned its first lead of the game with three straight tallies until Buck knotted the game at 10 on a free position shot with five minutes left to play. Fontana netted the game winner on a free position shot at 2:06 and Albany held on to take with 11-10 win.

Fontana and Rajczak led the Danes with four points a piece. Albany goalkeeper Jen Daly stopped seven SB attempts in the win.

Buck chipped on the offensive end with two tallies for the Seawolves. Jen Sandtorv made 10 saves in the loss.

Stony Brook is back in action Friday in Vermont for a 4:00 p.m. matchup with the Catamounts.
