Boston University Slips Past Women's Soccer, 1-0

Melissa Shulman headed in the game-winning tally with 8:23 remaining in the game off a free kick from 40 yards out from Meghann Cook to propel Boston University past the Stony Brook women's soccer team, 1-0, this afternoon at LaValle Stadium.

Stony Brook fell to 3-7-1 (0-1 America East) while BU moved to 5-4-1 (1-0 America East).

In the America East Conference opener for each team, the Terriers outshot the Seawolves, 28-3, in the game and 15-1 in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Cindy Bennett stop eight shots on the afternoon, but was under constant pressure from the Terrier attack. She turned away three breakaways to keep the Seawolves within striking distance.

Stony Brook nearly struck first, when sophomore Tiffany Fasullo found herself one-on-one with the Terrier goalkeeper, but Stephanie Dreyer was up for the task and made a terrific save, at the 4:41 mark of the first half.

The Seawolves return to action when they travel to Binghamton on Thursday, September 29. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
