Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook dominated from start to finish as the Seawolves earned a 72-54 victory over Boston University in America East women's basketball action on Wednesday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. Dana Ferraro controlled the boards, pulling down a school record 23 rebounds, which tied her for the second best single-game performance in America East history.

The win coupled with a loss by Binghamton moved the Seawolves into sole possession of second place in the league standings as they improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Terriers fell to 9-6 and 2-2.

"I was very pleased with how we played overall," said head coach Maura McHugh. "We came out right away with a lot of intensity and we were able to sustain that throughout the game."

SB jumped out to a 24-6 lead 9:40 into the contest behind eight points each from Jessica Smith and Mykeema Ford. BU rallied back with a 16-4 run to pull within six points at 28-22 with 4:31 to play, but the Seawolves answered with a 14-4 run on their own to take a 42-26 at the break.

Stony Brook stretched its lead to 24 points after Jessie Boylan capped a 12-4 spurt with a three-pointer and a lay-up to make it 54-30 just over four minutes into the second stanza.

Rachael Vanderwal netted eight points in a 10-0 Terriers run that pulled the visitors back within 14 at 56-42, but that was as close as they could get.

Ferraro added 10 points to her 23 boards to post her third double-double of the season, while Ford posted her first career double-double with game-highs of 20 points and 10 assists. Her 10 helpers set a new career-high and tied her for the second best single-game effort in program history. Smith added 19 points and seven rebounds, while Boylan finished with nine points and four steals.

Vanderwal led the Terriers with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Cheri Raffo netted 11 and Katie Meinhardt added 10.

The Seawolves are back in action when they travel to take on first-place Hartford on Saturday in an America East television game at 2:00 p.m.
