Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook took a 14-point halftime lead and never looked back as the Seawolves snapped a seven game losing streak to Maine with a 65-49 victory over the Black Bears on Wednesday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. The Seawolves, who are now 7-1 at home on the year, improved to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in America East play, while the Black Bears fell to 6-11 and 2-4.

"We played well at times, but we tended to get complacent once we had a big lead," said head coach Maura McHugh. "We are happy with the win overall, but we need to get better at putting our opponents away."

Mykeema Ford paced SB with game-highs of 16 points and five assists, while Jessie Boylan netted 12 points and Jessica Smith pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds in the win. Kelly Watson chipped in with nine points off the bench on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range.

The Seawolves began to pull away late in the first half, using a 10-2 run fueled by a pair of baskets by Morgan Patrick to take a 34-20 lead at the break.

Boylan opened the second half on fire, connecting on a pair of three's and sinking 3-of-3 free throws as part of a 12-1 run to open the stanza and Stony Brook led 46-21 just under four mintues in. The Seawolves would stretch that lead to as many as 28 on a Smith layup at the 13:42 mark and Maine could get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

Bracey Barker led Maine with 15 points, while Brittany Bowen added 10 points and Abby Schrader grabbed a team-high nine boards.

The Seawolves return to action on Sunday when they host UMBC at 2:00 p.m.
