Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook struggled on both ends of the floor all afternoon and UMBC took advantage, cruising to a 70-48 victory over the Seawolves on Sunday afternoon at the Indoor Sports Complex. The loss snapped SB's six game home winning streak and dropped it to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in America East play, while the Retrievers improved to 10-8 and 2-5.

"We dug ourselves a huge hole in the first half and we couldn't recover," said head coach Maura McHugh. "We did a poor job of making shots early and they came out on fire and beat us on both ends of the floor."

UMBC took advantage of Stony Brook's early shooting woes, jumping out to a 36-18 halftime lead. The Seawolves shot just 22.2 percent (6-for-27) in the half to 56.5 percent for the visitors and were outrebounded by a 24-11 margin.

The second half wasn't much better as the Retrievers led by at least 14 points and used a 15-4 run to stretch their lead to 28 points with 3:34 remaining to put the game well out of reach.

Kelly Waston was the only Seawolf to reach double figures with 15 points. Mykeema Ford and Jessica Smith, who entered the game as two of the top three scorers in the conference, finished with five and seven points, respectively.

Sharri Rhde shot 9-for-10 from the floor for a game-high 20 points to go with 11 boards. Brittnie Hughes and Matea Pender added 19 points each, while Pender also pulled down 10 boards.

The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday at Albany at 5 p.m.

Mykeema Ford and Jessica Smith both reached the 1000-point mark for their careers, marking the first time in program history two Seawolves reached the milestone in the same season.
