Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Freshman running back Conte Cuttino (Uniondale, N.Y.) was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Cuttino rushed for 129 yards in Stony Brook's win over St. Francis (PA) on Saturday, a win that kept the Seawolves undefeated in conference play. Stony Brook (4-4, 4-0) has now won four straight and currently sits alone atop the conference standings as it looks to defend its 2005 crown.
Cuttino powered a ground attack that rolled up 257 yards in a 38-21 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. Cuttino, who earns his second NEC Rookie of the Week award this season, carried the ball 20 times for 129 yards and a score. It was Cuttino's second 100-yard rushing game of the season, both came in Stony Brook victories. His nine-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave the Seawolves a 14-0 lead. Cuttino currently ranks fifth in the NEC in rushing (63.9 ypg).
The award marked the fourth consecutive week that Stony Brook has earned rookie of the week honors. Cuttino grabbed it first back on October 2 followed by Cory Giddings who held on to the honor for the past two weeks.
The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they host Robert Morris. Kick-off is 1 p.m.
