Coach's Corner #12 - A Letter From The Desk Of Coach Priore

Nov. 22, 2006

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The final game of the 2006 season ended with a 35-32 loss to Central Connecticut. While the ultimate goal of the final game against CCSU was not achieved, I remain proud of the performance of the team and the coaching staff. There were numerous moments throughout the course of the game that an average team would have given up. However, the team and staff understood the ramifications of the game, made certain schematic adjustments during halftime and put itself in position to win the game in the fourth quarter. Although we fell short of victory, the momentum of this game is a great foundation to build on during the off-season.

Quarterback Josh Dudash '08 (Beachwood, N.J.) finished his season with a fine performance connecting on 26 of his 43 passes for 369 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. His five touchdown passes equaled a personal and program best as he connected with Lynell Suggs '09 (Bronx, N.Y.) and Dwayne Eley '09 (Bowie, Md.) all afternoon long. The duo combined for 17 receptions, 327 yards and 3 touchdowns. Our running attack was led by true freshman Conte Cuttino '10 (Uniondale, N.Y) who paved the way with 94 yards on 17 carries for an offense that racked up 529 total yards.

The defense had a difficult time trying to slow Central's running attack that had their way with NEC defenses in 2006. It is true that we had some key injuries that affected our depth and hurt us schematically but the coaching staff saw a gusty performance from end Shawn Broome '09 (Elmont, N.Y), who saw his first full game action against CCSU. Shawn, along with freshman linebacker Tyler Santucci '10 (New Kingston, Pa.) paced the defense with 9 tackles apiece.

This off-season will be a tremendous opportunity for the Seawolves to get better in some key facets of the game. Strength and Conditioning Coach David Van Dyke has developed a program that will focus on increasing team speed. As we head into the holiday season, we plan to treat the coming months as we would any week of practice with the main goal of becoming a better football program each day.

Be sure to look for the season recap that I will send out after the holiday weekend. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Go Seawolves!
