Not even the Blizzard of 2006 could stop Mykeema Ford and Stony Brook as the Seawolves cruised to a 68-53 victory over the visiting Bearcats. The Seawolves took advantage of 19 second-chance points as they improve to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in America East play. The loss drops Binghamton to 13-9 overall and 6-5 in conference.
"I was very pleased with how we played today, especially in the first-half," said SB head coach Maura McHugh. "Our defense was able to control their inside game, which hurt us greatly when we played them earlier this year."
Stony Brook controlled the game from the tip and did not trail after taking a 5-4 lead off of a Sidney Orndorff three-pointer. The Seawolves' lead grew to as many as 14 as Stony Brook headed into the locker room up 39-25.
The visiting Bearcats would get no closer than 10 as the Seawolves are now in sole possesion of second place in the America East.
Ford led the way for Stony Brook, netting a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Dana Ferraro contributed 10 points on five-of-eight shooting. Jessica Smith tallied a game-high 11 boards. For the game the Seawolves outrebounded the Bearcats 42-33 and shot 93% from the charity stripe.
Jen Blues paced the Binghamton attack, with 15 points and four rebounds. Juta Jahilo netted eight points and grabbed seven boards in the loss.
The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday when they host New Hampshire. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
