Oregon Holds Off Women's Lax 13-11

Eugene, Ore. - Oregon used a pair of 4-0 runs in the second half and held off a late surge to top Stony Brook 13-11 on Tuesday night at Pape Field. The Seawolves have now lost three straight to fall to 5-6 on the season, while the Ducks improved to 7-6.

Trailing 5-4 at the break, Oregon opened the second half by scoring four straight times behind a pair of goals each by Ilsa van den Berg and Jen May to regain an 8-5 advantage.

Amy Taylor had a hand in each of the Seawolves goals in a 3-0 run as she scored twice an assisted on a goal by Jill Gridley to knot the game at eight goals apiece with 15:08 to play.

May ended the run just 11 seconds later to kick off yet another four goal spurt by the Ducks, capping it with her sixth goal of the game to give Oregon a 12-8 lead with 11:32 on the clock.

The Seawolves would not go away, however, and with the score 13-9 Kaitlin Leggio and Danielle Werner scored back-to-back goals just 12 seconds apart to pull Stony Brook within two goals at 13-11 with 2:08 to play, but Oregon held the visitors off the rest of the way to earn the win.

Taylor led Stony Brook with six points on four goals and two assists, while Leggio added a pair of goals and Carlee Buck chipped in with a goal and two assists in the loss. Jen Sandtorv (5-4) took the loss in net, making 10 saves over the first 46:23 of the contest. Gina DeNezzo came on late in the second and made four stops.

May finished with six goals, while Alison Leiner added five assists in the win for Oregon. Anna Poponyak (7-6) made 11 saves to earn the win in goal.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Albany at 4:00 p.m.
