Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 19-4 Win Over Wagner

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team opened up its five-game homestand with a dominating 19-4 win over Wagner on Tuesday night at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves have now won two straight to improve to 7-6 overall, while the Seahawks fell to 4-11.

Nine different Seawolves found the back of the net on the night, while goalkeepers Jen Sandtorv (7-5) and Gina DeNezzo combined to allow just four goals on 28 shots.

Stony Brook jumped out to a 2-0 lead just under five minutes into the contest behind goals by Danielle Werner and Amy Taylor. After a goal by Jessica Richmond pulled Wagner back within a goal, Jill Gridley and Werner tallied back-to-back goals to push SB's lead to 4-1 with 20 minutes to play in the half.

The teams traded a pair of goals to make it 6-3 before the Seawolves took over, scoring six straight goals, including a pair by Diana Caroleo and Gridley, over the final 8:31 of the half to take a commanding 12-3 lead at the break.

The Seawolves continued their offensive dominace early in the second half, stretching their run to 11-0 with five unanswered goals capped by two goals by Kaitlin Leggio to open the period and stretch their lead to 17-3.

Stony Brook closed out its scoring with an unassisted tally by Stephanie DeGennaro at 3:43 and Allyson Konczynin's first career goal off a feed from Kimberly Quartier with 2:25 to play.

Werner finished with a game-high four goals, while Leggio added three goals and two assists and Gridley tallied three goals and an assist. Taylor netted three goals, while Amy Hallion chipped in with three assists and Carlee Buck added a pair of helpers.

Sandtorv earned her seventh win of the season in goal, turning away nine shots while allowing three goals in the first half. DeNezzo turned away seven shots in the second half, allowing just one goal.

George led Wagner with a pair of goals, while Amy Jones (4-11) took the loss, allowing 15 goals while turning away three shots.

The Seawolves are back in action on Friday when they host New Hampshire at 3:30 p.m.
