Ali Levendusky scored four goals and set up two others to lead UMBC past Stony Brook, 14-9, at a rainy LaValle Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops Stony Brook to 8-7 overall, 3-2 in conference play.
Trailing 8-5 entering the second half, the Seawolves wasted no time in mounting a rally. After winning the draw control, Danielle Werner scored just 13 seconds into the stanza to trim the UMBC lead to 8-6. Meghan Keelan answered for the Retrievers nine seconds later off a feed from Kelly Fahey to again stake UMBC to a three-goal advantage.
The teams then traded goals before Kaitlin Leggio and Werner tallied less than two minutes apart to make the score 10-9 with 20:58 to play. Stony Brook could not get the equalizer and UMBC reeled off four unanswered goals over the final 20 minutes to seal the win.
Stony Brook started quickly in the first half, jumping out to a 1-0 lead on a Jill Gridley goal at 28:21. After Levendusky scored her second of the game at 23:54 to knot the game at 2, Amy Taylor scored twice within a span of 27 seconds to give the hosts a 4-2 lead.
UMBC would respond with a 6-0 run, capped by Kara Dorr's tally with 6:28 to go before the half. Carlee Buck stopped the run with an unassisted goal at 1:02 to make the score 8-5 at the break.
Werner lead the Seawolves with two goals and an assist while Leggio finished with two goals. Buck totaled a goal and two assists.
Stony Brook is back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Hofstra at 4 p.m.
