Kimberly Hillier and Casey McGrath each tallied six points as No. 17 Hofstra cruised to a 16-8 victory over Stony Brook on Tuesday night at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 8-8 on the season, while the Pride have won seven straight to improve to 10-6.
Jill Gridley led the way for the Seawolves, netting a team-high three goals, while Kaitlin Leggio added a goal, two assists and five ground balls. Jen Sandtorv (8-7) took the loss while making eight stops.
Hillier netted four goals and added a pair of assists, while McGrath added two goals and four assists. Jamie Rabuano netted each of her four goals in the first half, while Maisie Osteen (10-6) turned away 10 shots in goal.
Hofstra jumped out to a 6-1 lead just over 14 minutes into the contest behind three goals by Rabuano. The Pride continued to pull away, using a 4-1 run to stretch their lead to 10-3 before back-to-back goals by Katie Savino and Gridley cut the advantage to 10-5 at the break.
Hillier netted a pair of goals followed by a tally by McGrath to give the visitors a 13-5 lead just under three minutes into the second half to put the game away.
The Seawolves close out their regular season on Saturday when they host Vermont on Senior Day at 12:00 p.m.
