Stony Brook, N.Y. - Led by four scorers in double figures, the Stony Brook women's basketball team beat New Hampshire, 71-64, for its 10th win in 11 games. Stony Brook improves to 14-10, 10-2 in America East play. New Hampshire is 8-15, 3-8

"I was pleased with the way we played defense tonight," said head coach Maura McHugh. "Conference games in February are always tough and this game was no different."

The Seawolves led by as many as 13 in the opening half, when a Leah Getz layup handed Stony Brook a 30-17 lead with 5:09 left in the half. Stony Brook only scored two points in the remainder of the half and Ashley Cernigilia's half-court shot banked in as time expired to cap a 10-2 New Hampshire run as the Seawolves led 32-27 at the break.

Mykeema Ford led the Seawolves with 12 first half points and Getz added 10. New Hampshire only shot 25 percent from the floor but hit 10-of-11 from the charity stripe to keep the game close.

New Hampshire maintained its momentum in the second half, going on a quick 4-0 run to cut the Seawolf lead to 32-31 and force Stony Brook to call a timeout with 18:17 left in the game. The Wildcats took their first lead of the half on their next possession when Chrissy Hall netted a pair of free throws as UNH led 33-32.

After the free throws, Stony Brook went on a 14-2 run to regain control of the game. New Hampshire eventually would cut the lead to just three points at 57-54, but Stony Brook held on for the 71-64 win.

Getz had 16 points and five assists and was named America East co-player of the game. Ford also scored 16 and had nine rebounds. Kelly Watson added 12 points and Jessica Smith had 10.

Danielle Clark had 25 points and 10 rebounds and was named America East co-player of the game. Salee-Marie Johnson had 14 points for the Wildcats.

The Seawolves return to action next Wednesday when they hit the road to take on Binghamton. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
