Amy Taylor, Jenna Celano and Sam Strebel each had four goals to lead the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team to a 22-4 victory over Lehigh at LaValle Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Stony Brook moves to 2-0 on the season while Lehigh is 1-1.
"I thought we came out focused for today's game," said head coach Allison Comito. "This being our first game against Lehigh, we were not sure what to expect, but I am proud that we had a strong start offensively in the game."
Stony Brook scored the first five goals of the game and two within the first minute of the game. Kaitlin Leggio took a pass from Celano and scored her fifth goal of the season just 27 seconds into the game, netting the Seawolves first goal. Taylor followed that up when she scored her first of four goals on the day, tallying an unassisted goal just 22 seconds later. The Seawolves went on to take a 9-4 advantage heading into the locker room.
The Seawolves defense in the second half shut out the Mountain Hawks allowing them just five shots in the stanza. The Seawolves tallied 13 goals in the second half as they took 22 shots on goal.
Carlee Buck orchestrated the Seawolves offense with a goal and five assists, eclipsing the 100 assist mark for her career as she now has 103, the best in Stony Brook women's lacrosse history. Celano and Strebel each had breakout games for SB in their first season at Stony Brook with four goals each, respectively. Diana Caroleo chipped in with a pair of goals and assists on the offensive side of the ball for the Seawolves.
Jen Sandtorv made eight saves in the contest for the Seawolves, facing just 15 shots in the game.
Sara McIntyre netted two goals in the game for the Mountain Hawks.
Stony Brook next takes the field on Sunday when it hosts Brown at Lavalle Stadium. The game is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
