Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-9 decision to the 16th ranked Denver Pioneers at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the season to 3-1 on the Seawolves while Denver improves to 5-1.

"We needed to play 60 minutes today and our team didn't,"said head coach Allison Comito. "I give Denver credit though. It was clear to see why they are the 16th ranked team in the country."

Ali Flury netted her first of five goals at the 26:46 mark to open the scoring and put the visitors up 1-0. Kaitlin Leggio responded just over a minue later when she converted free position shot to knot the game at one. The Pioneers went on to rattle off five unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead with 9:56 remaining. The Seawolves would net a pair of goals from Diana Caroleo and Katie Savino to cut the lead to 9-3 heading into the locker room.

The second half would go back and forth as the Pioneers outscored the home team, 8-6, in the second stanza as Denver held on for the 17-9 win.
