The Stony Brook University women's lacrosse team roared out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back as they toppled Siena, 18-7, on Tuesday afternoon. The win moves the Seawolves to 6-1 on the season while the Saints fall to 1-4.
"I was proud of how our team prepared and executed today," said head coach Allison Comito. "We were able to find the back of the cage and will now focus on opening up America East play against Binghamton on Saturday."
It took Emily Jaissle just 21 seconds to net the Seawolves first goal of the game as they raced out to an 8-0 lead. Seven different Seawolves scored in the stretch before Ryan Tierney netted the Saints first goal of the game with 4:38 left in the half. Siena would tack on another goal from Lindsey Rosecrans as the teams would head into the locker room with SB leading 8-2.
The Seawolves tallied four answered goals to open the second half to take a commanding 12-2 lead. The teams traded goals to end the contest as the Seawolves were victorious, 18-7. In the second half, the Seawolves netted 10 goals on 14 shots.
Jaissle finished the contest with six points off a game-high four goals and two assists. Kaitlin Leggio added six points as she dished five assists and netted a goal while Carlee Buck recorded a goal and three assists. Kristen Dupuis also registered a pair of goals and a pair of assists for the Seawolves. Jen Sandtorv made 10 saves in the cage to earn the win. 11 different Seawolves found the back of the cage in the contest.
The Seawolves will play their America East Conference lid-lifter against rival Binghamton on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at LaValle Stadium.
