April 14, 2007

Final Stats

Baltimore, Md. - The Stony Brook University women's lacrosse team had its seven-game winning streak snapped as it fell at UMBC, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Seawolves drop to 10-2, 3-1 in America East action while UMBC improves to 6-8, 2-2 in league play.

The Retrievers wasted no time scoring the first goal of the game as Kara Dorr found the back of the cage just nine seconds in to give the home team a 1-0 lead. SB knotted the game at a goal apiece as Amy Taylor netted her first goal of the game at the 28:30 mark. Using four-unanswered goals over the next nine minutes, the Retrievers opened up a 5-1 lead. The Seawolves would not go away as they scored five of the game's next seven goals to trail 7-6 heading into the locker room. SB received scoring from Amy Hallion, Kaitlin Leggio, Diana Caroleo, Sam Strebel, and Taylor in the stretch.

UMBC opened up the second stanza with two quick goals to hold a 9-6 lead with just over 25 minutes left in the game. A pair of Caroleo goals sandwiched a tally from Jen Kasper that led to SB trailing 10-8 with 13 minutes remaining. Another goal from Leggio at the 11:18 mark brought the Seawolves within one, only to have UMBC score again five minutes later with 6:56 to go. Off the ensuing draw control, Emily Jaissle netted her first goal of the game to bring the Seawolves within one yet again. A goal from Kasper with 4:12 left proved to be the game-winner as a late tally from Hallion with over a minute remaining would be the last goal of the game for the Seawolves. Jaissle had a chance to tie the game in the final moments, but her free-position shot was blocked.

Caroleo led the way with three goals and an assist while Leggio, Hallion, and Taylor each finished with a pair of goals and an assist. Jen Sandtorv made 12 saves in goal for the Seawolves in the game.

Kasper and Dorr each netted three goals for UMBC in the game.

The Seawolves return to action as they wrap up their three-game road swing at Wagner on April 17 at 3:30 p.m.
