Carlee Buck exploded for eights points off four goals and four assists to lead the Stony Brook University women's lacrosse team past Wagner, 15-10, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The win improves the Seawolves to 11-2 on the season while Wagner drops to 2-11.
"I am very glad to that we were able to win today," said head coach Allison Comito. "It is now time to focus and prepare for Albany on Saturday."
Just 1:03 into the game, Buck netted an unassisted goal to give the Seawolves a lead they would not relinquish the entire contest. The Seawolves raced out to an early 4-0 just under four minutes into the game before a pair of Wagner goals cut the Seawolves lead to two. Stony Brook expanded their lead back to four with tallies from Jenna Celano and Emily Jaissle 22 seconds apart to give the visitors a 6-2 lead with 17:13 remaining. Over the next 2:47 the team would combine to score five goals, three by the Seahawks to make it a 8-5 game. Another Wagner goal from Jessica Richmond brough the Seahawks within two again before the Seawolves closed out the final 9:11 of the first half with four unanswered to grab a commanding 12-6 halftime lead. A pair of goals from Buck paced the attack, including one with four seconds remaining in the first stanza.
The Seahawks opened up the second frame with two goals before Buck found the back off the cage off a free-position shot with 20:35 left to play to spark a three-goal run by SB. Tallies from Diana Caroleo and Kaitlin Leggio wrapped up the scoring on the afternoon for the Seawolves who did not score in the final 18:12 of the game. Wagner tacked on a pair of goals from Teri Noll and Kelly Blundin to bring the final score to 15-10.
Buck finished with a game-high eight points off four goals and four assists while Leggio added four goals and two assists. Caroleo finished with two goals and two assists off the bench. Celano found the back of the cage twice while Taylor tacked on a goal and an assist. Jen Sandtorv made 11 saves in the cage for SB, including seven in the second half.
Richmond finished with four goals for Wagner while Noll added two goals and an assist. Alex Johnston made 17 saves in goal on the afternoon.
The Seawolves return to action on Saturday when they host rival Albany at 4:00 p.m.
