Cross Country Competes at Boston College Invitational

Boston, Mass. - Stony Brook's cross country teams ventured away from campus for the first time this season, taking part in the Boston College Invitational on Friday afternoon. On the men's side the Seawolves placed four runners in the top-15 to place fourth out of nine teams, just six points behind host Boston College. The SBU women's team finished sixth at the event.

Senior Shaun Krawitz (Auckland, New Zealand) was the top finisher for Stony Brook in the men's event, finishing eighth overall in the 8K race in 24:48. Next across the line for the Seawolves was sophomore Alex Felce (Stroud, England) who finished the course in 25:05 to place 12th overall. He led a contingent of SBU runners, all sophomores, which took three consecutive places. Five seconds behind Felce, Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) claimed 13th with Tim Hodge (Tawa, New Zealand) just one more second back for 14th.

Also competing on the course in Franklin Park for the No. 14 regionally ranked Seawolves were senior Zack Tyerman (Seattle, Wash.) who was 33rd (26:05), sophomore Iain Whitfield (Stroud, England) who finished 48th (26:56), and senior Kevin McCarthy (Nanuet, N.Y.) who was 53rd (27:17) and the final scoring runner for SBU.

For the women freshman Lucy VanDalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) had the lone top-10 finish for SBU, taking 10th with a time of 17:44 over the 5K course. Next across the line for the Seawolves was sophomore Jessica Hampson (Smithtown, N.Y.), who turned in a time of 17:59.

Another freshman was the next Stony Brook runner to finish, with Holly VanDalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) completing the course in 18:22 for 29th. Just two second behind her in 30th was senior Dana Hastie (Wellington, New Zealand); with senior Kerry Salzano (Staten Island, N.Y.) just another two spots back with her clocking of 18:31.

Completing the scoring places for Stony Brook were sophomore Jacquie Kehoe (Katonah, N.Y.) who finished 38th (18:40), and freshman Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) who placed 58th (19:29).
