Women's Cross Country Places Eighth at Pre-Nationals

Terre Haute, Ind. - Stony Brook University's women's cross country team finished in eighth place at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Indiana. The #12 ranked Seawolves were led by sophomore Holly Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) who completed the 6K course in 21:12 for 37th place.

Junior Jessica Hampson finished eight seconds after Van Dalen in 21:20 and in 46th place. Placing 51st overall in a time of 21:23 was sophomore Lucy van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand). Freshman Hayley Green (Wellington, New Zealand) took 56th (21:29), junior Laura Huet (Carrickmines, Ireland) crossed 75th (21:40) and sophomore Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) finished in 22:41.

39 teams competed in the race with Stony Brook, which improved upon last year's finish by seven spots. The Seawolves finished in front of #22 Northern Arizona and region rival #30 Syracuse.
