Junior Alex Felce (Stroud, England) was the first of 148 runners to cross the finish line at the Central Connecticut State University Mini-Meet on Saturday morning. Overall, the men's cross country team finished second, behind conference-rival New Hampshire.
Felce completed the 5K course in a time of 14:44, finishing five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Fellow junior Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) finished in fourth-place, crossing in 14:56. Junior Kurt Wende (Williamsville, N.Y.) had the next highest finish for the Seawolves, taking 13th (15:35).
Freshman Daniel Sierra (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and sophomore Alex Varone (Providence, R.I.) also placed for Stony Brook taking 24th (15:48) and 26th (15:50) respectively.
Giving its top runners a break this weekend, the Stony Brook women's cross country still finished tenth. Sophomore Leanne Skrabacz (West Seneca, N.Y.) paced the Seawolves, crossing 28th in a time of 11:52. Freshman Kathryn Ferry (Hampton, N.J.) took 38th (12:06), sophomore Kristina Doyle (Lockport, N.Y.) crossed 52nd (12:21), sophomore Kellyann Moniz (South Hamilton, Mass.) finished 62 (12:30) and sophomore Kristen Connolly (Massapequa, N.Y.) took 65th (12:36).
Stony Brook will be traveling to Baltimore, Maryland next weekend to compete in the America East Championships, where the women's team will be defending its title.
